As the most awaited show, House of the Dragon released its first episode last Sunday, and it has broken all the previous rating records on IMDB after hitting 10 million views in one day.
The GOT prequel series HOTD has kept its audience in wonder as the show depicts the whole story of Targaryens. The series got impressive record-breaking numbers on the scoreboard after the premiere of its first episode, with a 9/10 IMDB rating. The 300 years old story before GoT is based on the novel Fire and Blood. The producers have cast Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Milly Alcock, Graham McTavish, and Rhys Ifans.
Show producers with HBO have been planning on different series related to GoT even before the show ended with its 8th season in 2019. It is because, after the contradictive ending of GoT, the fans were not satisfied and ready to watch another show related to the same story. But as soon as the trailer was released, HOTD got all the hype and attention. Soon after the release of its first episode, it broke all the viewership records in just one day and became a global hit, proving that there is no significant effect of GoT ending on the prequel series.
After its initial release on Sunday evening, HBO claimed that House of the Dragon had a rating of 9.98 million viewers, including all the streaming platforms. The previous show was aired in 2011 and gathered almost 2.2 million viewers after its debut on screen. But to their surprise, the series received a massive response from the fans, and it gained a viewership of around 10 million only after its debut episode. It did not only create worthy hype through the attack, but social media was on storm after the release of 1st episode.
The Chief Content Officer at HBO and HBO Max Casey Bloys shared his view on the response from viewers to the show.
“It was wonderful to see millions of “Game of Thrones” fans return with us to Westeros last night. ‘House of the Dragon’ features an incredibly talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into the production, and we’re ecstatic with viewers’ positive response. We look forward to sharing with audiences what else George, Ryan, and Miguel have in store for them this season.”
The ongoing season 1 of HOTD comprises 10 episodes, and it is confirmed that the show will follow the complete story in the next 3-4 seasons. The world-famous show GoT audience has outstood the number of ratings in favor of HOTD viewership, making the show a record breaker among all. In response to its first release, HOTD needs to be more vigilant about its audience and their expectations of the upcoming episodes.
Although Game of Thrones ended 3 years back, the show has been a part of highlights since 2011 and is still seeking the limelight, especially after the announcement of HOTD as a show’s prequel. GoT might have disappointed many of its fandoms with a twisted finale, but the prequel has achieved many applauses from loyal GoT fans. Now all their hopes and expectations from the show lie within the new prequel HOTD and fans are waiting to see if the show can maintain the same level as GoT in its first season. If that happens, House of the Dragon will become the best-running show on HBO after Game of Thrones.
