We have a good announcement to make! The creators of Money Heist have informed us about the spinoff of the show, based on the fan favorite, Andrés de Fonollosa. It’s about time we watch another nail-biting suspense after the hit show, Money Heist.
When Money Heist was rolling on the screens, not many people could foretell its grand success. The show, also known as La Casa de Papel, aired its final episode on Netflix in December 2021 and had 190 million viewing hours in its first week. The great success brought several awards to their path and signified that the story is not completely done.
Just when the public started to accept the ending of Money Heist, we were awakened with the incredible news of returning to the heist job with Berlin.
We now have confirmation that Berlin will join the streaming platform in December 2023 according to a date announcement film made by the streamer. There isn’t much information available about the spinoff series yet, but based on the video published for its unveiling, it appears Berlin’s mark will be the heist of priceless jewels.
Alex Pina is back to be on the writing board of Berlin after making Money Heist a perfect show. Before the official announcement of Berlin hit the streamers, Alex Pina conversed with Oprah Daily with hints of a spinoff. According to him, they had several possibilities for spinoffs.
He speculates that this is “thanks to the strong and powerful identities of the characters.” The team of Alex has always wanted “characters to have a very complex, layered design.” Pina further informed that almost every role of Money Heist has a “duality” that they would want to watch in a spinoff series. “We could watch any of them in other contexts,” he added.
For the love of spinoffs, let us inform you that Berlin isn’t the only one that came from the high success of Money Heist. Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area is a South Korean version of the original series. The series’ success was consistent with the strong performance that many Korean shows have shown on Netflix.
Yes, Pedro Alonso, also known as Berlin, will continue his journey from the parent show to the spinoff. On the basis of the little informative video Netflix aired, Berlin will be recalled for the theft of valuable jewels.
Besides Pedro Alonso, the audience will see Michelle Jenner as Keila, Julio Peña as Roi, Begoña Vargas as Cameron, Joel Sánchez as Bruce, and Tristán Ulloa as Damián. A slight chance is there that we may get to see some original cast from Money Heist, but nothing is confirmed as of yet.
What is clear, however, is that Pina and Pedro Alonso talked fondly about the upcoming spinoff during Netflix’s Tudum event in 2022. Pina mentioned the show would be a “trip throughout the golden years of the character. When he was stealing all over Europe, madly in love.”
Netflix tweeted after posting the first teaser online, “A new heist in the city of love. From the world of Money Heist, BERLIN comes to Netflix this December. #BERLINnetflix”
We are looking forward to the pilot episode of Berlin, are you, too? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
